I've seen people clock upto like 3.6Ghz on a 1.4v vCore and I can't even keep 3.2 stable on 1.45V :-\

actually in your case evensteven if you're using the computer in your sig with the stock sink, thats prob one of the reasons.

You're also running a 65nm cpu. 45nm cpus generally require less volts to reach high frequencies

Even with the same cpu model & stepping, each individual CPU requires different voltage for different speeds.
Besides, instability can come not only from the CPU. It is very common to have instability issues with your RAM and/or with your Northbridge. Because fo this, it is important to test CPU first (Prime 95 small FFT), Memory Only (Memtest 86+) and overall system stability (Prime95 blend). You may need to add voltage to your RAM or to loosen it's timings. You can also need to increase NB voltage.

Things is, with vCore set on Auto, I get 100% stability on Orthos and memtest.

sink is stock heatsink - they're saying you might need better air cooling.
Also on that note, how's your case thermally otherwise - your dated northbridge getting too hot now? Also, in the 3 years you've owned that board - might be past it's prime...and not ready to OC heavily. lastly, I'd look at your power supply - should be ok with what you have - but if that's dated too it might be getting funky on those higher clocks... get a larger one to give you more room to play with. First look thermally, then power - THEN look at what your mobo is doing.... - also update your BIOS if you haven't done that... AND...look at your RAM clocks, might want to loosen to rule that out

just because the motherboard lasts a long time doesn't mean it's good. Theoretically i could keep a carton of milk in the fridge for 3 and whatever years. Doesn't mean its good ![]() but yeah, each chip is different, requiring different amounts of voltage. this will depend on stepping, model and manufacturing process
