Do I now do more passes at the same voltage or keep reducing voltage until it fails?
Whoa, it was an audible click? Which stepping do you have?

Could be your PSU disarmed due to high temperature, you might want to try it with the PSU outside the case however I dont think 1.45V is exceedingly high. Passed 20 pass at 1.55V, 3.5G for my B3 chip, your one is better.

This is the shortfall of LINPACK, it puts too much heat in the system that makes longer testing harder than it needs to be.

Well, it just did 50 passes at 1.41v stable. 3.5ghz seems to be the maximum sweet spot, after that, the old law of diminishing returns kicks in, you really have to ramp up the voltage for 3.6-3.7.

As for the click, it wasn't really a worrying click, more the normal on off sort.

My CPU is a 1.25v VID G0 stepping, so it should do fairly well. Just a shame it really suffers to be stable at 3.6ghz +. I had it 3.7ghz underwater which was about the max it could do.

Whoa. That's pretty nice. By the way, you might be able to lower the vcore a little by raising the memory voltage a little and still have the same stability, or at least close to it. My overclock was failing at the 37th linpack run using 1.328V vcore, and 2.150V memory voltage. I upped the memory voltage to 2.175, and decreased the vcore to 1.312V, and to my surprise, I got one more linpack run and it failed on the 38th test in stead of the 37th. The voltgage was the only thing that changed. For both linpack tests, I used the same fan speeds, the same test settings, and the same everything else.

Yeah, i'm down to 1.39v Vcore and up'd my memory to 2.2v (which is still covered by OCZ warranty ). I shall see how this goes. I would also like to reduce some other voltages such as my VTT and PLL's.

Currently (iirc), my VTT is 1.4v and PLL 1.71v. Both are within a suitable range for this CPU, but does anyone know whether those voltages affect CPU temp or just the motherboard?

When I hit my lowest Vcore, I will start working on PLL and VTT, perhaps NB although that is already fairly low at 1.26v (had it at 1.36v before and it kept failing, I didn't realise NB VTT had to rise in a direct correlation with NB Vcore).

Bump for good question that I don't know the answer to.

Intel documentation recommends an absolute PLL maximum of 1.55V or you risk damaging the CPU. Vtt is only relevant to the motherboard as far as I know

Eh, i've seen people running PLL's at 1.8v and above. I ran my Q6600 with a 1.7v PLL for the last year or so with no issue.

Weird, the motherboard only starts giving you the warning colours at 1.9v
