Help me decide between E6300 2.8ghz or a low end Quad like the Q8200.
I already own a Q9550 and a E8400. I have a extra mobo right now the Gigabyte DS3L & all I need is another cpu. I sold my E6400 and E2160 cpu's. Hawaii doesn't have a Microcenter so I can't get that awesome $170.00 deal for Q9550. Well I could ask a relative to purchase it for me but if it's defective, it'll be a PITA to have to ship it back to exchange it. Thanks in advance!

If you're talking about the new 45nm E6300, then that's definitely a better choice. It'll be a much better overclocker than the Q8200 since the E6300's multiplier is x10.5 while the Q8200 is just x7. Plus, I personally feel that it would be a better match for the DS3L than the Q8200.
Oh, and to best support the 45nm E6300, be sure to get the F9c BIOS.

I would have your relative hook you up. Ive never had a bad cpu thats new and Ive gotten quiet a few of them.

with that motherboard you have, it should not be too hard to overcock the q8200, but i'd rather find a Q6600 or Q9550 from a (trusted) member here and buy it off them, you will know that its working and in some cases you might get a lapped one ( like i did )
i just think that if you have the money there is no reason to be buying a dual rather than a quad

Well IMO, I'd get the E6300 and overclock it. Heard those chips are great overclockers

Thanks for the replies. It's 2 for a Quad and 2 for the E6300. Would anyone care to comment to break the tie?

8200 wont clock well. i'm thinking that E6300 will out-perform the Q82 in gaming overall, I am not positive on that though.

grab the E6300 45NM duos love to OC. and the 2.33Quad you mentioned is probably too low end for a person on OCN =D also, the duo has a multiplier of 10.5 and the quad a 7. You'll get more heardroom for FSB on the duo. Get the duo.

Just grab the E6300. You already have a Q9550 system, so have some fun and grab the new E6300 and see how high you can take it
![]() Unless you do have a relative that wouldn't mind purchasing the Q9550 from Microcenter for you. Personally I'd just avoid the Q8200. I like having all the fancy features like virtualization.
