ive got a celeron 566 mounted on a msi-6178 that im trying to overclock...however, im a complete beginner and have the slightest clue wat to do. my bios has basically no settings related to the fsb speed so i am having lots of trouble. i managed to clock it up to 638.9mhz by adjusting the ratio, but if i go any higher my computer wont start and i have to reset the bios manually. plz help..!! any help would be much appreciated..thx

If your BIOS has no settings, perhaps updating it would be a good idea.
About your pc not starting, if you raise the vcore (voltage to the cpu), it should fix it, but beware of high vcores because they bring high temperatures and you should get good cooling before raising the vcore too much. for more information, just check NoAffinity's Intel Overclocking Guide, it has everything there

ummm I dont mean any disrespect, but its a frikin 566mhz celeron...How is OCing it going to help?
But as an attempt to help, if you dont have a Vcore option in the BIOS you might have to set a DIP switch or a Jumper on the PCB. Though it is entirely possible that you might have to connect places with pencil, but I doubt it. Look in your motherboard manual, the tome of knowledge contains answers aplenty. As for the Onboard Video, you dont. Its that simple.

You could try clockgen or CPUfsb (Ill get you links in a second) but I doubt they support anything that old anymore, but I dont think they'll do your voltages.
As for your graphics card, no its not possible because the core (Which is a chip on your mainboard) is locked down tighter than a timelock at a bank. Though you would probably gain marginal performace by overclocking your FSB since its using 4 megs of your system memory, Then again it probably has some sort of lock on it that wont let it go any higher than a certian amount, thats the reason I say no its not possible. To be completely honest man, a good system can be had for less than $1000 USD. I mean I quoted a 2.4ghz P4 with Hyperthreading system today for my Roomate's friend at 629 and thats with EVERYTHING. You at least have some things to carry over, you are really better off buying a good system and OCing that instead of wasting time and energy on this old Celeron. Edit: here are those links: Clockgen http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php CPUFSB http://www.cpufsb.de/CPUFSB.HTM SoftFSB (if it still exists) http://www.3dcenter.de/downloads/softfsb.php Note on SoftFSB: As far as I know this is nolonger supported so I recomend trying the first two first. Also sorry that the site is in german.
