Default voltage/temp issues with my q9650

Im having issues with my overclock being way too hot. In games im getting roughly 53c with quite a difference among all 4 cores. I think the highest ive seen is about 9c diff. do you all think im pushing too much voltage (1.375) for a 430 x 9 overclock (3.87ghz)? BTW in bios its set 1.375 vcore but cpuz reads 1.328, why such a miss read?

The difference between cpuZ and bios readings is something called vdroop.

If you worried bout the temps ease up a bit. . . extra few mhz worth a fried cpu?

Im not familiar with your cpu cooler or the ventilation the inside of your case. maybe see how the airflow inside the case is, often overlooked but can help.

^^ ive got the antec 1200 case so i gots tons of blowage going on in theres. is there any way i can combat the vdroop problem? also what do you all think about the variations in core temps? is 9c separation too much?

Well vdroop can be reduced but never totally fixed as we dont live in a perfect world with perfect computer components but to reduce you can do a pencil mod which you can find on here somewhere through the forums. Not to sure on your board though.

As for the 9 deg difference is that only at load or even on idle?

Then nothing major to stress about really. I have noticed on different computers that there is a diff in temps between the cores but once idle comes about and they return to normal then its fine. Only worry once you have major differences on idle.

cool. So as far as trying to get a stable overclock i think my issue is voltage. Im worried that because im putting vcore to 1.375 in bios yet because of vdroop im only actually getting 1.328 that i might need to up my voltages more, but this puts me in the 1.4 range in bios and that make me awful nervous. However, because of vdroop id probly only be at 1.35 ish which is my target (I feel) to reach 4ghz stable. i dunno.... all this overclocking stuff is tuff sometimes.

Well remember that when overclockin a quad its very different than doin a dual core. you need to take into consideration alot more than just voltage for the cpu. will look for my old post on doing quads and will get back to you.

Personally i would not tempt over 1.4 volts and whats your northbridge voltage at?

Sometimes we just cant push anymore know the limit and stick with it i learnt the hard way ;-)
