The 965 and 975 are identical chips to the 920's other than the multipliers are unlocked.
I would go out on a limb and say that either Vcore or temps were the limit to your 4.4ghz OC on your 920 right? if i am that means you are likely to hit the same blocks with the 975. the only benefit to a 975 is if you are being limited by your memory or something other than your cores that is clocked based off your baseclock. if that is the case then it would help because you can raise your CPU multiplier and keep pushing. The 965 and 975 chips are really intended for people who have too much money and are scared of overclocking (which clearly you are not) or people who do Dice and LN2 runs regularly. with extreme cooling the 975's become well worth the extra money, but air and water no way.

Stated perfectly above. Without extreme cooling, a "golden" OC'er 920 D0 would be more of an upgrade. Of course, a golden 975 exists out there some where too.
