Try another program like 7-Zip for archives instead of WinRAR.
I am not running any RAID. I am not running any antivirus. Interestingly, 7-Zip takes just as long as WinRar to extract.

Here's what I'm doing:

WinRar installed on C: which is my 64GB SSD that I posted the chart for.

I have moved the RARs to c: and tried to extract from c: to c:. Same problem.

I have moved the rars to e: (a 7200.11 Seagate 500gig hd) and tried to extract from e: to e:. Same problem.

I have moved the rars to f: (a different 7200.11 Seagate 500gig hd) and tried to extract from f: to f:. Same problem.

I have tried to extract from f: to e:. Same problem.

All other benchmarks on this PC seem to be fine. I'm now running at 4.0Ghz.

It just screams out it is a HD problem, but I really think I've done everything I can to rule that out.

A shot in the dark but try memtesting your RAM. You never know, even though I doubt it... depends on how much the programs use the RAM, like for buffering etc.

And also, try extracting a non-passworded archive if that one's passworded.

I'll try memtesting the RAM. The archive already is non-passworded. Now that I'm thinking about RAM, this problem does seem to have occurred after I received 3 new sticks from Corsair after RMAing my last 3.

I have tried memtest yet, but it is stable under Prime95.

Yep, I've tried different versions of winrar. And now my discovery that 7-zip does the same thing, I've ruled out the extraction software. So it is down to a setting with Windows 7, or a hardware issue I believe.

Highly bizarre.

Try both HCI memtest, and memtest86+. Also custom Prime Blend of 8k-4096k.

do you have write-back cache enabled on your drives? from your SSD benchmark, it doesn't look like it to me, to high of a spike there and it's all over the place

I do, I was thinking of disabling it. I don't know much about how the SSD functions itself, but to my understanding a SSD doesn't have a physical cache anyway, and therefore you should disable it. But you think I should keep it enabled?
