What's the deal? I haven't used this PC in about 2 weeks due to an RMA issue with my Dominator RAM. Now I'm using it again and WinRAR is taking 6 minutes to extract a DVD sized file. This is rediculous. It is using 0% CPU in Task Manager. I haven't overclocked it again since I got my RAM back so I'm running everything at stock.
__________________What's the problem? Edit: My PC runs slow as Christmas when I'm extracting something. Although CPU usage stays at 0-3%. When I use the WinRAR benchmark CPU usage goes to 40% and I get 3,900kb/s. From my understanding that is fine. It's just in actual use that it sucks.

maybe set the winrar priority to higher priority or real time in the task manager?

Tried that. That was actually my first thought too, even though I've never had to do that for anything before. It's just strange. It didn't use to be a problem, and to my knowledge nothing has changed but I replaced the RAM. And I've tested the RAM and it seems fine.

at stock i get ~61% cpu usage... and 4,573kb...
at about 1:30 to winrar 700MB of highly compressed video on high... at about %40 cpu usage... from winrar... takes about 11 seconds to extract... with about 13% cpu usage...

Edit: It isn't my hard drive. I've tired extracting to another drive and my SSD. Same problem.

I'm going to bump this thread because I still can't find the answer to my question or solve it.
__________________![]() This is my HD. Seems to be ok there. It's just Winrar is soooo incredibly slow at extracting.

Set Power Options setting to Performance instead of Balanced. If things are faster, then you have a SpeedStep issue.

Which hard drive are you extracting from and to? Are you running something like RAID5? Are you running any antivirus? Any bad processes in task manager?
