so far i've got
i5 750
phenom II 550
e8400
if there aren't any suggestions, then which one of these is the best just for gaming? I will be playing every new game, that came out/will come out (e.g. Red Faction Guerilla, Resident Evil 5, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, COD4MW2, Crysis(will finish in 2 days or so, runs ok on my current system)

And also, will my 500W Thermaltake handle my new rig?

I think an i5 system is your best bet then, I have attatched an image of my recommendation, alls you would need to do is ask your favorite grannie for a nice cooler so you can OC it .

For gaming the i5 and e8400 are quite close clock for clock. With the system posted above you wouldn't get much overclocking on stock cooling. If you got an e8400 you could get it to 4ghz easily and it would beat the i5 ( or any processor in that case ) is almost every game.

The phenom x2 550 will lag behind a bit. It is quite a bit cheaper though and is still a very good cpu for gaming.

I'd get an e8400/p45 motherboard and you would still have 100 pounds or more to get a high end cooler.

Whats the full model number on your psu?

CF/SLI will be of no use to you on a 17". However p45 supports crossfire. If you wanted SLI you would have to get with a nvidia chipset motherboard.

go i5.

its faster clock for clock than the AMD and unless you plan to use multi-GPU it should be OK.

CrossfireX is supported however if you want the choice between cf and sli you will have to go with something like this...which should still keep you pretty close to your budget.

E8400 is my recommendation... I'd say its a very good option and overclocks past 4 GHz usually.
