Default New rig setup for christmas

So, today I was told to choose what I want for christmas (heck, yeah) but my budget is only about 350 pounds, which kind of sucks. Of course, I always wanted an i7 rig, but I think it is not possible to get it with 350 on hands (or am I wrong?). I can add about 20 pounds to the total..
I want to keep my 500W and 9800GT, so all I am asking for is a good CPU with a fair amount of RAM(can upgrade later) and a mobo (I think x58-ud3r is quiet good).. I would really appreciate if I could get a core i7 9** (or 8** but with future upgrade to 9** without getting a new mobo, if it's possible)..
Oh wait, is 8** more expensive than 9** ?

I'm not sure on UK pricing, but i think a AM3, ddr3 board with a 955 along with 4 gigs of memory would do quite nicely.

Hitting 3.8 was easy, getting a stable 4.0 ghz, that will be a challenge!

I don't think you are going be able to get an i7 rig for 370 pounds. If you had 500 pounds you could probably do it though. I hope this helps!

Hmm, ok. What if I say that I only need a good cpu with 4 or 6gb of ram and a motherboard for future upgrades? What maximum can I get out of 370-380 pounds?

How about an i5 build??

Just built one myself and I am very happy with it, not to mention it kills my old amd 955BE setup I had before it

I am in the uk as well, I use scan.co.uk normally or ebuyer.com.

Here are a few items I picked from scan which can be changed if needed, I am just giving you an idea of what you can get for the money

1. Intel Core i5 750: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel...156-CPU-Retail

2. Gigabyte P55-UD3: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...SATAIIRAID-ATX

3. 4GB Kit of Corsair 1333Mhz DDR3 Memory: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-%...d-CAS-9-9-9-24

All that totals at the time of typing £326.37 inc VAT but not delivery

I never thought of i5, really. Gotta look at them. What are the advantages/disadvantages of using an i5 cpu than i7?
I will be mainly using this rig for gaming and might do some encoding (but not a lot and i am not sure if i ever gonna do it)

Pretty sure I read somewhere that i5 actually performs better than i7 in gaming.
