Default What did i just do? (trying to overclock)

2nd retry to overclock my PC and result, might have better explaination.
okay, i changed around the multiplier with the same FSB, the FSB from properties on my computer, didn't do anything, but when i increase the FSB, it does increase, i changed from 1066 to 1401 right now (2.66ghz to 3.5ghz). core voltage at 1.43 RAM voltage 2.2.
Report from CPU-Z
Core Speed 3600.9MHz multi x10 Bus Speed 360MHz Rated FSB 1440MHz
================================================== ====================
1st trying to overclock.
my question is that, how come when i set the FSB:RAM ratio to unlinked and set my own RAM FSB, they system always freeze after loading up to windows. I have to use Linked and sync mode. my system info is load i'ma update it right now.

i try to over clock Q6700 @2.66ghz using xfx780i mb.
1. I went to the bios, CPU setting changed the multiplier from 10 to 8, FSB at 200. assuming now running 1600.
2. so i changed the FSB to 250 to make it back to 2000 as if were still at 10x.
3. then I went to the RAM:ratio to link/sync the RAM. I see on top it says frenquency 2166 after dropping the multiplier to 8. and it was 2666.7.
4. and there an option called FSB QDR at 1066. I changed that, then the frenquency on top started to increase as I increased QDR(1350). and now the frenquency says 2700.
5.so whatever displayed in the bios got me thinking "so i didn't increase the speed just the clock cycle, or faster communication speed".
6. but when i goto properities in desktop. it says q6700@2.66, 3.38ghz.
i'm really confused plz help.

CPU-Z: Core speed 2025.~5mhz multiplier x6.0 shouldn't be 8? bus speed 337.6 Rated FSB 1350mhz.
================================================== ======================
i try to redo it change different number, i noticed that the multiplier doesn't do anything, why is that? i set QDR to 1350 with 10x, is 3.37. with 8x is also 3.37, and minium is 6, but 6 and 7 doesnt work. when i change to that with same QDR, pc doesn't boot to OS.
and when i try to match my RAM ratio to it, i'm using ddr2 6400 800mhz, that should be 400, anything i change to the ram it doesn't boot, and if the max is 400, why auto setting is using 500ish?

Maybe you left energy saving things on?

You need to disable EIST, C1e and some other power saving things from BIOS.

Windows rarely shows proper overclocks. To see what you system really is, download CPU-Z. As far as your issue, it seems you may still have SpeedStep/C1E on in the BIOS. Look for those settings and disable them, and then see what CPU-Z tells you.

i was just wondering, which one really mattered, which option was for the speed to increase?
