The rest of the settings (as far as I remember): BCLK 135 Multiplier x21 (19x + Turbo) RAM multiplier AUTO (it chooses x8). That makes it 1079. Vcore 1.25 in BIOS, I think (CPUZ reports 2.16v) VTT not sure will update once this Linx run is through and I can go back to BIOS

If your ram is giving memtest errors when everything is stock, I believe the best move here is to RMA the ram. You got some duds.

But they still can't pass Linx. Results are much better (14 runs passed compared to 2-3 with all 3 chips in) but still not good. This makes me think RAM is just part of the problem. I wonder what else it could be ...

I have reread your orignal post and you state that it still has the shipped bios, try flashing the bios if there's a newer version. Make sure your bios is set to defalt settings before flash. Flashing the bios may or may not fix the other issues but may give you more options.

Now Q-Flash refuses to see my USB stick with the new ex58ds4.f6 file. I made sure it's in FAT format and tried a number of USB ports. Another setback ...

These newer boards I don't think you need to formatt the flash.

I didn't, just copied it to USB stick and checked that the stick is in FAT filesystem. Q-flash doesn't show it as an option of drive to load flash from, only a non-existent floppy drive. Sorry if that was unclear.

Its been a while since i've been in that bios, you got to an option for a floppy?
Don't quote me but i think it was a key-stroke on that screen because it sounds just like what i ran into too! Are you set in bios to boot fron flash or other?

BIOS was set to boot from CD then HD. I tried using F12 and booting from USB, but it didn't work (just went to Windows from HD).

That's with no OC yet, only 4GB RAM, and w/out dedicated scratch disk HD (which I just need to hook up). I'm a pretty happy camper, but I bet I could push it even further!
