Default Is my Bios temp true?

Hallo everyone....
i sometimes get into the bios and check the temp and everytime
the temp is max 22C .
A friend of mine who has the same rig as i told me that these
temp is not right...
I used long time ago CoreTemp and the temp was 40 (Summer time).
Is there something wrong with my bios?

BIOS temp readings do tend to be a little lower due to not much happening with the CPU. The more things that the CPU has to process, the hotter it will become. Depending on your ambient temps, the BIOS readings you are getting could in fact be correct.

What are your CPU temps once you have fully booted? If the difference isn't that much, then I'd tell your friend he's wrong.

Bios temp tells CPU temp not cire temp which is what you need to be worried with.

That's a good 17-20 degree jump. As lowkickqop said, the BIOS is reading your CPU temp, and not actually the Cores of your CPU. Nevertheless, your BIOS CPU temp sensor may be a bit off. If it was a small difference, say 5 degrees or so, then I'd say it's ok, but with that high of a difference, your best bet for monitoring will be CoreTemp or RealTemp.

What's the ambient temp in your room? That plays a lot into your overall temps.

EDIT: I'd have to say for idle temps, 39-42c seems a bit high, unless it is very warm in your room. We have the same CPU cooler, and when it's 24c or so in my apartment, my idle temp for my overclocked E8500 is 28-30c, and load temp is 54-60c.

BIOS isn't normally accurate for reading temps from a CPU for the above reason, and many others

it's best to research the tjmax of your CPU, and use a program like realtemp, or core temp and enter it into the program, and you can watch your temps in the task bar, i use realtemp

The 71.4c is the Thermal Specification, as explained by Intel:

Quote:
Thermal Specification: The thermal specification shown is the maximum case temperature at the maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) value for that processor. It is measured at the geometric center on the topside of the processor integrated heat spreader. For processors without integrated heat spreaders such as mobile processors, the thermal specification is referred to as the junction temperature (Tj). The maximum junction temperature is defined by an activation of the processor Intel® Thermal Monitor. The Intel Thermal Monitor’s automatic mode is used to indicate that the maximum TJ has been reached.
Note the bolded and italicized portion.

The highest temp his processor can go safely will best be provided as Willage said; by using the current version of either CoreTemp or RealTemp.
