Default Need help passing 209BCLK...

Hi all,

I'm stuck with my overclock. I've been very methodical so far and have managed to overclock up to 209 QPI which is 4378MHz. My overclock is fairly stable and passes 50 runs of LinX at 4800mb (out of 6gb). With vdroop it takes around 1.376vcore for this (1.425vtt).

I've attached a screen shot.

The problem I'm having is that I can't get my system stable at 210 QPI with any sort of vcore/vtt... the most I've gotten is about 12 runs of LinX. I've tried going as high as 1.5/1.55 vcore/vtt but it doesn't help (in fact, it fails quicker!).

The voltages I'm using are in the screenshot. Any tips? PCI express over 103MHz causes my LAN card to crap out.

Thanks!

Noodles

You may have reach your board/CPU's max.

Have you tried with a lower multi to ensure the CPU isn't holding things back?

Also, why is your CPU PLL lower than stock?

I had to have my NB @ 1.5 to get 4.5 GHz stable (213 BCLK), but you're already there.. try a higher PLL.

I've gotten 210 stable on another chip on the same board. Also, I've gotten 215 stable on this chip using a lower multi.

CPU PLL lower than stock because I set it that way read some things online that suggested that so I did. I tried it at 1.8 and it made no difference...

Any more help? Thanks guys.

If that's on your current board, then i'd say you've hit your wall.

If you can do a higher FSB/BCLK with a lower multi (effectively removing the CPU limitation), that generally means CPU is holding you back.

Stability gains from CPU PLL reductions, come at more like ~1.4v, as far as I can tell.

The bclk wall of a 1366 mobo is typically no higher than 222 MHz. You may need more than (pcie) 103 MHz. If 104 makes your LAN card bug out, I think you have a particularly picky LAN card, at least, I don't start to see problems until over 110 MHz.

This is your wall, and there is nothing left but rather extreme measures, to get past it (for now). This is the part where it isn't as easy to OC i7 as everyon says it is. Although it is easy to get 200 bclk, after that, things are as nuanced as ever, imo.

I've gotten higher than 215 stable for sure at a lower multi, i'm just saying I've definitely gotten 215 so 210 should be doable.

Thanks for the CPU PLL help, I'll try it lower. My LAN card does seem picky. And yes, it is HARD to OC an i7 once you get this far... simply upping the voltage/vtt does not work anymore.

Well, i'm on P55, but i'd say in a similar situation to you...

I found that regardless of whether i used 21x200 (4200 MHz) or 20x210 (4200 MHz), i just could not get 4.2 GHz to stably pass LinX consistently.
It did 23+ hours of P95 Blend & everything else BUT LinX.

I can do 4.15 GHz just great, but after that point, it seems either i need an insane amount of additional voltage, or i basically hit my CPU's wall.

I'd consider my scenario a wall regardless of why, as i don't believe in upping vcore by silly amounts just to get an extra few MHz.

Sucks. Using my sig overclock for daily use anyway -was just hoping to get every single last MHz possible from this. There's gotta be a way though.
