I am back at normal temps now. Whew! I think the problem was that the Antec silver paste just needed a few hour long cycles before it worked well enough for me to run prime95 for 10 mins. Thanks for your help guys.

thats it??? that dont sound right..... are you sure your temps are ok? its not normal for TIM to "set" in a couple hours resulting in a 10-15 degree drop.

No that's not ok.
Its too high. Try to keep load temps between 60-70C. Anymore and you're cutting short the life of your cpu significantly.

Yes it will, especially if TIM application is less than perfect. Quote:
If there is any instability, then 86c can definitely accelerate any degrading effects which may be occuring. However, if the system has been shown to be perfectly stable, 86c at 100% load is fine, imo. In my opinion, I have yet to be shown that a stable i7, which sees 86c, only during stability testing, will have it's lifespan shortened. As long as you are within mechanical, electrical, thermal, and signal clarity specifications, you should not see any change in functionality. Any claims that there are both ideal, and catastrophic states of being, for a cpu, within the Intel specifications, are just that, claims. i7 has thermal controls, it will throttle, if it needs to. It will turn off, before it burns up, unless you disable these controls, or are directly applying flames to the 920.

Should have used IC7. That stuff is damn good bro. With my cooler and Q66 @ 3.6, idle temps are 29C with ambients at 22.6C! That is damn good if you ask me. But as soon as she is under 100% load with ITB, I hit about 71-72C
Not be if you ask me.
