so i heard that the new 930 is gonna release Q1 2010 and i am in need of an upgrade as you can see from my current rig.
__________________i would love to hit the 4ghz [not because its important but 4ghz is alot more pleasing than 3.9] but i will most likely not be doing water any time soon so i must rely on air. my current HSF would be the dark knight but i am thinking about getting a megashadow, all in all would it mean anything to wait for the 930? would it be easier to OC to 4ghz on air? and would the price be any different?

The pricing is going to be the same.
__________________There is some speculation as to whether or not this chip will be 32nm or 45nm. If it is 32nm it should be a big step up from the 45nm i7 920 and overclock higher while consuming less power. If it's 45nm, it will probably overclock the same as the D0s. The 920 @ 4ghz will be a very capable CPU and last you for years to come. In technology, you can always wait for new products to come out; but if you did this you would never end up buying anything! Go for it

Yeah I would get a 920. You wont see much performance dif. The 930 is just meant to be a update of the 920 in a way I guess.

You should be able to get 4GHz in on a 920 with air

if news comes on the chip that it is 32nm would that justify a reason to wait a little bit more?

I would just wait.... I mean u already have a computer ok processor that works for now... plus if the 940's come out and are really good...the 920s will be hella cheap....

Yeah it would beacuse 32nm will consume less power and you will get a higher overclock on it. If it is 32nm which I doubt IMO. Then yeah you should wait.

I'd buy a good X58 setup (motherboard, RAM and all the other parts like HDD etc) Go to the FOR SALE section of this forum and look for a good overclocking D0 920 chip (used is cheaper and make sure you ask how its been used and what its VID is. also ask for the BATCH NUMBER. Do research on the batch number and see what overclocks other users are getting. If all looks good buy the chip and you're set with a kick ass 920 setup with out worrying about water cooling the chip. Now here's the bonus. Most high end good motherboards will be able to support gulf-town cpu's coming out in 2010. So with just a BIOS update you will be able to upgrade your cpu to a 32nm cpu should you choose to do so. Just my $.02 btw: that megashadow is one sexy piece of engineering. Certainly the best on air

920 stepping D0 + Megashadow/Megahalems = extremely good chance of hitting 4.0ghz on air. At 4.2ghz with a megahalem my temps are getting into the high 70's on hot days, which is starting to get up there but well within the tolerances of this chip.
