Default Boot Times

Well im not sure if this is in the right section.

Here it goes:

I have two rigs one in my sig and the other has a:
Pentium 4 (Prescott)2.4 GHz and a 512mb ram
Both my rigs are running WinXp(SP2) 32bit. But the problem is that my sig rig takes longer to boot than my old rig. Is this a problem?

Boot time is related to the speed of the HDD, also how full it is, how fragmented ect, and also what loads with the OS at startup (which services are needed, differnt drivers, ect). Two different systems with the same OS will have differnt boot times and it wont always be related to the speed of the CPU. If you want to reduce your boot time take a look at Black Viper's site and remove some un-needed services.

Boot time is boot time.

All those un-needed services or programs that load at startup, will increase your boot time.

Also checkout that defrag program from iobit.

For fastest performance, get a SSD

What is your boot-up device priority set in the BIOS.?

-Sometimes if you have a cd-rom set as 1st boot-up it takes longer as opposed to setting your OS HDD as the 1st bootup device.

-Also make sure there aren't any discs in your optical drives (takes time for the disc to be read at every boot-up)

-Try disabling any ports etc you don't use in your BIOS (like legacy support for a floppy drive etc.)
