Hey guys I'm pretty new to overclocking and I'm not quite sure if this is the right section I should be posting in. If not then please feel free to move it.
__________________First of all I am currently running: Windows 7 x64 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 ASUS P5Q Motherboard Corsair XMS2 DDR2 4GB (2x2GB) tx-750w Corsair PSU I am currently at my aim of about 4GHz but keep getting blue screen while running Prime95 for a couple minutes with the returned error. Code:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 3081 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 124 BCP1: 0000000000000000 BCP2: FFFFFA80055E8028 BCP3: 00000000B2000040 BCP4: 0000000000000800 OS Version: 6_1_7600 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 256_1 Multiplier: 8.5 FSB Speed: 470 vCore: 1.34v DRAM: 2.1v NB: 1.26v SB: 1.1v I'm not quite sure why but in CPU-Z it is telling me that I am still running everything at stock and vCore at 1.32v. While stressing I am only getting around 56C so I don't think that I'm overheating. Any ideas?

Did you disable all of the throttling features in the bios? Eist, Speed Step, Spread Spectrum...any throttling features that board has. You have to do that first or the cpu gets throttled down when it isn't under a load. Disable throttling first then report back if you still have trouble.

Milkeh... Fill in your system specs...
__________________From the sounds you have speed stepping enabled. What it does, is when the CPU is not under load, it turns the multiplier down (lowering the power needed, its an energy saver mode). As CD35 said: EIST, Speed Step, or Spread Spectrum... make sure they are all disabled, and that should stop that from happening. I know most of my overclocks go haywire because I get so anxious I jump right into the mix and start playing with FSB, Multi's, and voltages, forget to get the basics first ![]() Hope that helps! - Danny

It's being throttled down. Just shut off all of those things: C1 Eist, Speed Step, Spread Spectrum.... I'm not very familiar with that board's bios but I'm sure you'll find them all--use the manual if you have to.
__________________They cut down the voltages and speeds when it "feels" necessary. Oh, I forgot to mention too! Are you keeping you RAM at or as cloce to stock as possible while you oc the cpu? Be sure and do that. Keep the RAM completely out of the equation at this point. If you have any troubles, you'll know it's the cpu or NB and won't have to troubleshoot too much at this time. After you get the cpu oc sorted you can go back in and oc the RAM.

Hmm. Well, I suppose this could be CPU EIST Function and C1E kicking in, but I don't think it should take longer than a few seconds for it to adjust. But make sure they are disabled. But if they are disabled, then I don't know what is causing that.

Alright guys, thanks for your replies. I'll take a look at it in the morning because I'm very tired right now. Just before I do go though, when you tell me not to touch the ram as of yet, what temperatures would you like me to leave at auto?

Just set the RAM to stock settings. With the higher fsb you'll have to find a divider that gets you close to the stock speed of the RAM...go a bit under it if you have to (underclock it) and set the voltage and timings to the stock ones for the RAM also.

Voltages you mean?

er what if I gave you an output of my cpu-z and you gave me some recommended settings to put in? Because I'm not exactly mean by the FSBx2 settings. If you mean put the FSB frequency back to stock, that would just leave me at stock speed?
