Default Need Help Overclocking i7 920 to 4.0 GHz

Hi Guys,

I'm kind of in need of some assistance. I currently have my cpu overclocked to 3.6 ghz. What I would like to do is overclock it to 4.0 + ghz without turbo mode on. I am doing a lot of media encoding (h.264) and could use the upped processor speed. The thing is, everytime I get my cpu overclocked to 4.0 ghz, my computer will load the bios and successfully update everything, but when it gets to starting windows, my system crashes. Any suggestions / bios settings I should use? Don't worry about temps because I'm using a water cooling system. Also, would having a SSD be a problem with the overclock? Anything would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Specs:
Mobo: Evga x58 SLI
CPU: Core i7 920
RAM: 6x2GB = 12 GB DDR3 1600 Corsair XMS3
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 295
Windows Boot Disk: Intel G2 SSD 80GB
Media : 2x2TB Hitachi @ 7200 rpms
Water Cooling

SSD Wont affect your overclock. You need to use search within overclock.net cause what you looking for is here its been asked many times. You need to up your cpu voltage by tiny amounts and by tiny i mean tiny

CPU Voltage and Uncore voltage both will need to be tweaked to get yourself stable.

This guide
gives an excellent run down of how to get to 4ghz.

9 times out of 10, an overclock fails due to not enough volts, increase and see how you do after that

I seem to be limited by my memory. My computer will boot and update successfully, but when it gets to loading windows, my system will do 1 of 3 things.

1. Quickly flash the blue screen of death and then reboot the computer
2. A gray bar will appear across the bottom with "Loading Windows Files" and then reboot.
3. Computer just reboots.

I've increased the voltage on the ram and cpu, changed ram timings and I still get the same error. Any ideas?
