Default 4 GHz Stable on Auto?

Hey guys I just managed a stable 4Ghz OC, the thing is I've left all voltages on auto...
I have ran OCCT for 20 minutes without issues.

Is this safe? Should I use Manual Voltages?

Many guys say to set voltages to manual, but IMO if your voltages are acceptable at auto (that is they are being automatically set within specs) then I would say you are ok.

20 minutes of OCCT is a start, but you have a way to go before you are stable. Prime95 or Orthos will identify instability faster than any other program, period. Get one of those and then run it for AT LEAST 8 hours. Everyone has a different idea of what "stable" is, but I like to run Prime95 for 24 hours with blend settings before I consider my OC "stable."

I definately suggest manual voltages. Open up CPU-z and see what the voltage is at on the cpu. It is most likely that it is higher than needed to get the oc stable.

20 minutes isn't long enough either. some people suggest 50 runs of LinX and 8-12 hours of Prime to say its stable.

Cos, auto voltages are dangerous, as u increase bus speed your system will increase voltage to what it thinks is best and will overvolt causing hiddin damage. That is a bad idea.

For me at the moment a stable OC is just my PC booting.

I'll do some proper testing tomorrow, I don't like to leave the house with my PC running prime95 after a new OC, just in case something goes badly wrong.

CPU-Z is telling me the v-core is at 1.35, seems fine to me though. I'll see how I go with prime95.

The main thing I was wondering is if Auto Voltages are unsafe in any way, seems ok so far though.

1.35 vcore on an i7. I've never oc'ed an i7 but I've seen many other people obtain 4.0ghz with 1.15-1.2 vcore.

Intels max voltage spec on the i7 920 is 1.375 volts. You can go over that and be ok but you gotta watch your temps. I am at 1.36 at 4.46GHz, 1.35 is fine

auto voltages often overcompensate, check everything.
