Default Overclocking Q6600 B3 on a GA P35-DS3P

Hi all,

I did a mild(?) overclocking on my Q6600 (got it up to 3Ghz).

My idle temperatures currently average 32 degrees celcius. However, when I try to run Intel Burn test on Maximum for 10 runs, the temperatues go up to 80 degrees celcius. Am i pusing it too far?

My current CPU voltage reads 1.36875, and I upped the FSB and northbridge voltage by .1v.

N.B: I got this desktop from a friend (who probably didn't take care of it that much in the months before he sold it from me). Found out that the thermal paste had completely dried up and was giving me idle temperates (on stock speed) of 60+ degrees celcius.

Aftermarket heatsink plox. That should lower temps a tad

And new thermal paste most definitely. MX-2 or MX-3? AS5 if you don't wanna get the newer stuff.
Although there are better TIMs, I like my Arctic

Hmm... I think the cooler he is using a zalmann 9500. That "should" be good enough? Not sure, just got into this overclocking business.

I've never liked the whole Zalman cooler selection. Just didn't really appeal to me. Plus, the style you say he's got just really seems like a bad idea to me O.o

But I've seen people do great things with it.

More than likely, new TIM will bring down those temps. I'm jealous of your clock.

I will try to buy some new thermal paste and reapply it when I have the time. Anyone else has anymore advice? Much appreciated.
