I've been deciding so hard lately, researching (google) around on which is better but nothing enough to justify which should I go with. I really love playing Sims 3 and no doubt that this game is CPU intensive. Was about to go with the Q9550 but with the price hike all of a sudden I can't afford, same goes with the i series.
__________________So I'm narrowed down to these 2 choices. I'll be overclocking. Will the Q9400 perform better than the E8400 on the Sims 3? P.s I will be playing GTA IV too!

GTA IV will benefit massively from the two extra cores.
Sims 3 will run perfectly fine on the E8400, but for being 'futureproof' and running GTA IV; get the quad.

Get the quad for sure.
Also, if you have a Microcenter nearby, you can get a Q9550 for under $170.
