You will need to increase your nForce MCP voltage, and possibly the fsb voltage. Also change the ram multiplier to 1:1.

hmm...nforce voltage is 1.50, fsb voltage 1.50 too...i think i dont need to change my ram settings cuz i dont want to overclock RAM (it is on default - 800 mhz)

A 25mhz overclock for RAM isn't too bad at all, but you do want to run it at 1:1, made a big difference for me. If it still won't boot at 425FSB, drop it down to 420 or 415 - but do run your RAM at that speed as well. My basic corsair ram handled 440MHz just fine until I realized I got a better windows experience benchmark with a 1:1 ratio. (and I know, the windows experience benchmark is near useless - but its what I've got :-p)

Edit: Is this your first time overclocking that chip? If it is, set your FSB:MEM ratio to 1:1, and start working up from the base FSB of the chip in 33mhz increments. When it doesn't boot, start from the last one that worked and work your way up from there in 5mhz increments. Find the stable point - then add a bit of voltage and keep going. If this is not your first time overclocking the chip and you're at 3.6 and trying to get higher - you'll enjoy 3.4 about as much as you do 3.6. Don't forget to post CPU-Z screenshots!!! :-D

You need to start low and work your way up - not every q6600 can do 530mhz, and unless you're benchmarking I still say that a 1ghz overclock is absolutely nothing to sneeze at. Regardless you need to start low and work your way up - its safer and you have less risk frying anything (I know this from an old duron I played with about 7 years ago....).

Further Editing: Make sure when you do this you have all your power saving settings turned off as well as EIST off - This way your clock speeds aren't changing on you all the time and your voltages are going to stay more consistant. Also make sure your PCI-E speed is set to 100mhz and not on auto.

Found a good guide here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/24...ds-duals-guide (and personally I'm not a big fan of toms, but this forum post was quite informative)

The NVIDIA 600i and 700i motherboards have FSB holes. Try droping the CPU multi to x6 and try for 450 FSB and see if it boots. I will post back with FSB Hole info...

But basically, with the almost unlimited memory dividers (unlinked) and the chipset strap, certain combinations of ram speed, FSB and chipset latency can lead to instability or even no-boot. Intel has kept only certain memory dividers because of this problem.

At 390+ FSB (up to 410) I could not boot with 1.55 vcore. But when I set FSB to 411 and up, I was able to boot and run OCCT for over 3 hrs stable. I eventually reached 1.4 vcore at 3.7GHz. I have also found that no two boards will necessarily have the same FSB Hole, and bios updates can even move them to different FSB frequencies.

I would suggest lowering your multi to find your max FSB you can post at.

Duckieho posted this thread on the 680i strap which I will use to help illustrate the point. Basically what these are showing is that the northbridge chipset has latency much like your ram. When you move up in FSB, it will move to a different "strap" and loosen the timmings so to speak. The graphs show the "FSB hole" as well. Basically you take a huge hit in performance between 1376MHz up to 1454MHz, and above 480 FSB. I plan on running a 400 - 450 FSB.

You need to see if your chip can do 450+mhz first. not all chips are created equal. for the Q6600 the general maximum is 3.8ghz on air, more often around 3.4-3.6. It takes patience to overclock because you need to do it correctly, otherwise you risk damaging your hardware. Take your time - start low and work your way upwards making sure you remain stable, within safe temperatures, and most importantly, within safe voltages. Make sure you read the guides that are within these forums as well as they'll point you in the right direction also. I'm not familiar with your motherboard (my board doesn't have anywhere near as many configuration options as yours does) so hopefully someone else here has that motherboard and can chime in with some advice to help you along as well. Also, if you can get 3.4-3.6 at a 1:1 ratio - that's a dang good overclock, 1Ghz is great for a Q6600 - the only ways I know of to get much better is to watercool, or to get the newer generation Q9xxx series and overclock those. Regardless, you wont see a noticable improvement for an extra 100mhz when you're at such high clock speeds so dont push things too far. - again - best of luck in your OC

Edit: Thanks Ericeod for the extra info here

No problem, I've done a lot of work with the 600i and 700i chipset. here are the people who were able to jump the FSB hole. I know it looks like a testimonial, but it does show how relevant the issue is.

EDIT: Wow, im stupid. I turned down the FSB and SPP to 1.2 and when it tried to boot it made staticy sounds... Oh well lol..

Anyways, I'm basically at my OC limit I think, I maybe can get a few more Mhz, it's just the temperatures getting close to 60. Thanks for the help guys! REP+

Cyphear has an ASUS P5N32-E SLI based on the 680i chipset. He could only OC his E6300 to 2.62GHz. Now he is booting stable at 2.94GHz with 1.4v and still climbing. He actually had a 100MHz FSB hole!
