Default Temp sensors broke?

My local computer store had a TRUE+fan for sale for 50$+tax so I said why not and bought it. Now, Ive had my e6600 since 2006 and I've left it on 24/7 since then. It has always idled at 54-58 degrees celsius and it's reached around 60-62 during major task's and games (on a old zalman cooler). I'm just wondering why the idle temps are so high.. is it the chip itself? I was never really worried about it till now. :|

Its currently idle at 50 C with the new cooler btw.

EDIT: I also switched it to my old P4 rig, The TRUE + P4 chip idles at 20 C.

What are your ambient temperatures? How do you have your case fans set up? What program are you using to monitor?

These are very important when evaluating temperatures.

Room temperature is 75 F.
Case fans are set up intake>exhaust. (2 120m at 72 CFM) I removed the lower HD cage/front swinging door for better flow.
My cable management is good.
I'm using HW monitor.

I'm figuring its my chip since my other rigs seem to be fine.

It's not something to worry about unless it's making the room uncomfortably hot or you plan to keep the chip for more than 10ish years. Even then it might not be an issue. You might also consider turning on some of the power saving features to allow the processor to clock down when it's not in use.

Sorry this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but hopefully it's still helpful.

It's cool. I just figured the idle temps are on the chip sensor since I never seen it hit 65+ load. Should actually be lower now since I got the TRUE cooler.
