I'd been into PC gaming in the past and have had no problems putting systems together doing some overclocking, etc but always like to stick to the budget/Bang for the buck end.
__________________The bug has bit me again and I'm looking at building a new rig. I'm definitely interested in getting a dx11 card when something worthwhile becomes available for it. Part of me wants to just go with an I series Board and I series chip right away, while another just wants to put together a system with an E series core. Though the prices seems to be getting close, maybe costing me about just $100 or so more to go with the I core. Guess I'm just looking for some thoughts. Will be doing gaming, maybe an MMO, I'll be looking for some "wow" graphics you can only get on apc, but not "pushing games to the limit" Thanks, -Eric

My vote: get the i5 750. AnandTech did a comparison of 7 different cpus in this article.
__________________In general, the i5 2.6ghz quad core could meet or beat the e8600 3.3ghz dual core in almost all games. But you may be thinking, what happens when i overclock? with a 4.5ghz e8600 vs a 4.2ghz i5 750, i'd expect the performance to scale the same, meaning the "slower" i5 would still have the upper hand in most games. The E8600 has the benifit of fully matured hardware and bioses, and cheaper ddr2. The i5 750 is $70 cheaper and you get 2 more physical cores. Do some research on motherboards and ram (for both the E and i5 cpu), and price them out. I think they will be very close. Hope this helps!

I personally wouldn't spend any more money doing a full update to a 775 system. IF I already had a good mb or good cpu and you just needed one or the other, it'd be fine. I just wouldn't spend hundreds on a 775 sytem right now. I also won't spend the outragous kind of money they are asking for DDR2. It's come to the point where DDR3 is almost the same price as DDR2. I got 4gb of DDR3 2000mhz for $90.
To me it really comes down to buying an i5/P55 or spending the extra cash and getting an i7/x58.
