Depending on your system configuration setup you might need your Windows XP Pro CD for this HAL change. Go to your device manager and expand "Computer". See the "Uniprocessor PC"? You want to double click this to bring up the Uniprocessor PC properties. Choose "Update Driver" and "Not This Time" for Windows Update Search. Choose "Install From a List or Specific Location (Advanced)". Uncheck both checklists and check "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install". In the next box, choose "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" and allow it to make the software changes. Then you will be prompted to reboot. Perform the reboot and be ready to insert the CD if asked. Your system will install the Multi-Processor HAL for you. If you are not given any choices for the ACPI Multi-Processor PC then you need to perform a Windows XP Repair. To install a HAL using Windows XP Repair: Configure your computer to start from the CD drive. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer. 1. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD. 2. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen. 3. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console. 4. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement. 5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP. ![]() Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup. When it says to press F6 for RAID/SATA drivers, choose F5 and let the process continue. You will be given a choice of different HAL's to install. You can scroll with the up/down arrows although you can't tell this unless you try. Choose "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" and let it do the repair. hth, R

Possibly your processor is malfunctioning in the HT.
I would format the drive and do a clean install. If the HAL shows a single processor on a clean install then by the looks of it, I would say the processor is malfunctioning. Please post a CPU-Z. http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php R
