Default what is best idea, buy a 13" macbook w/basic specs to save $$ ?

I am buying a 13" macbook and would like to know what makes more sense if to buy it with the basic specs and upgrade it myself or if to buy with the upgraded specs and spend the xtra money right on the spot.

Ok, so, the specs I see on the apple's web site for that machine are:

1280 x 800 resolution
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo1
512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)
80GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive2
SuperDrive (DVD±RW, CD-RW)

And here are the specs I could upgraded to-- and the cost of it

2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM -2X1GB- for an extra $500 of the original price
120GB Serial ATA drive - for an extra $100
Apple USB Moden - $49
and the apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter or the DVI to VGA adapter- $19 for either one.

What do you think?

After I buy and upgrade it intend to overclock it

For your info: I will be video editing and compositing in this machine.

thx

Personally, I would upgrade myself, since the upgrades you mentioned are all pretty easy to make.

One side not though, it is not good to overclock a laptop... they run extremely hot at stock, and overclocking just increases the risk of them dieing.

Chipp,

so you think that buying the 80GB hardrive and then upgraded to 120GB pakes sense? you see, I have no idea if this is duable without having to buy a second hardrive. Am I making sense here?

Thx.

i think thats what he means , because it is fairly do-able to do the upgrades yourself. You will have to buy another hard drive and then replace the one in your laptop . Similarly with your ram and things.

And i too would not recommend oc'ing a laptop , increases the risk of damage permanent or otherwise.
