I have some parts to build a few variants of the Crunch Box (a simply cube case large enough to hold 4 ATX mobos) and wanted to hear some feedback about an idea I have been kicking around.

Would a dual mobo rig with identical Gaming components make for an interesting piece? I have most of the parts to set up a water-cooled pair of rigs and a pair of x1950pro cards that seem capable of high resolution gaming...

I am not tied to an Intel build--but I happen to have 2 D805 chips--a great excuse to buy a P5B or P5WDH for later upgrades to quad when the price drops.

Should I go for "Lan Party In A Box" or just focus on making individual gaming rigs to network together?

I say go with a Lian Li PC-343B or MountainMods case. Mod those for two PCs in one. Maybe do a duality theme: fire/water, ying/yang, heaven/hell, ect.

But I am not a gamer--I would be making this to pass along to a gamer (I would hope) so It's a matter of whether this is a good idea or not...I know I can do it. But should I bother? Are there certain games that would be ideal for two players ?

RTS are usually super fun with another person. Probably not very functional, to be honest. My roommate and I game all the time, so for us (college students) it would be tight.

If your going to be passing this on to someone I'd say to have two seperate rigs because if you put them together like this then they would have to stay together. IMO the only reason to have rigs together is if they are folding. Otherwise, the 2 rigs can be in 2 difference places which is better and if you want to play a game just set up a LAN.

omg...I can't wait to see this. I've got an idea for you. Make a giant cube that has an output on each of the four sides and the front pannel, optical, and hard drives up at the top of each side. Then on the top of the cube have a giant box fan to cool everything.
