First Time Build
|
....somebody hold me & tell me its all gonna be ok.
__________________ok, seriously, I have been getting ready for a new computer for the last few months... I have used Dell's at work for years, without any problem.. eh, easy enough. but i have always wanted to build, so i figured now is the time. i have spent the last few weeks researching everything that i want...downloading & reading all the manuals... trying to get a solid grasp on every part of the build. I have replaced everything seperately over the years, but never all at once, from scratch. but as i look at the forums, they are 95% about various problems people have. yikes. is it really that complicated? DOA memory, hard drive dying after a week, power supplies that shoot flames, fried CPU's. yikes. am i in over my head? i would like to read about at least one person, that bought everything, put it together, and was playing games that night...

You won't read that. They are playing games not posting...remember?
![]() You should be ok if you just take your time. If you know someone that has done it before maybe have them come over and double check everything.

If you buy the parts, do everything exactly as the manuals say, use all stock components, and dont modify anything, and tripple check EVERYTHING before you turn it on, there is probubly a 75% chance it will all work correctly.
However, I can not remember the last time I did anything with my hardware when I did not have at least one problem I had to fix. Such is the nature of custom builds. You need to be ready for things to go wrong, and give your self time to troubleshoot the problems. A golden rule I live by when working on my computer is never to put the side pannel back on untill I have verified that everything works pefrectly, becuase 99% of the time I WILL have to take it off again and change somthing. Sorry, thats just how it is. Its a trade off. With a Dell you get 99.999% asurance that it will work when you turn it on, and a number to call when it doesnt. The downside, of course, is that you must pay for that assurance, and you must conform to pre-configured system specs. With a custom PC, the only garuntee that it will work is your own skill and smarts. However, you dont have to pay for those. Also, you get 100% choice when it comes to the components, so you can pick and chose what you put in your computer.

If its DOA, then RMA. Its not a big deal.

If you have confidence in your knowledge of parts and take your time, you can build it. It may take more time than you expect, but the reward is pure bliss and something to call your own. Plus you will save money.

When I built my first computer from scratch, I didn't have one problem. Just kept to the manual to make sure all of the wires are correct on the motherboard. Upgrading my ram anyway, i did recieve one DOA which I justed RMA. Other than that I havn't really ever run into any problems.

Well Ive been Building systems for a while now and TBH I have rarely hit a snag. Building isnt the hard part its the configuration and overal compatibility
Just make sure when you buy parts for a build that they are all compatible with eachother.

OOOO pick me, This build I just threw the components together and it worked flawlessly the first time...Granted some parts where carry over from a previous build...But really if you pay attention to what you're doing and make sure you have all of the plugs in, and in the right spot. It's going to be ok
You have to remember that everyone come's here when they're having problems, not when they just want to bloat...well sometimes to bloat...but mainly for problems.. And if you have trouble everyone here is more than willing to help you fix the problems with your computer..You've picked the best place and the best advice you can get. Now just apply it and have some fun
