Overclocker in Training

Hi i have overclocked my system and all seems well in windows, very quick when rendering but when I restart, it shuts down first, then powers up. This is annoying because I just spent ages in recovery console fixing errors to get back into windows...When stock settings for the cpu are in place, there is no problem shutting down, however i would like to overclock the cpu as it is an ES chip with unlocked multipliers.

Could be a couple of factors -
First, is your BIOS for that motherboard current?? My rig used to be weird about restarting, but a BIOS update cured that. It could also be your Overclock is simply not stable. Have you run Orthos, Prime95, or any other test to ensure its stable?

EDIT...opps missed a detail on the boards chipset does not apply to this post, though a bios update should fix it.

I have this happen too and I have heard that a BIOS update fixes it. It really isn't worth the trouble to me since I rarely reboot anyways...

yeah agree with systemaxd. did u use the drivers that came on the cd when you built your rig? as they are probably out of date now and can be upgraded, go to the site ive linked here and it will guide you through updating your bios
