Smile building a rig....

i am planning a build for a backup for myself and one that will fold. i am not very good at picking brands so thats why i am gettin help on this one. i have a cpu, mouse, keyboard, monitor, and hard drive. i need everything else. basically it needs to be as CHEAP as possible and able to overclock an e4300 to 2.6ghz. btw the hard drive is only an ide and lga775 for the cpu and preferably ddr2 ram but it doesnt matter that much. so lets see what you guys come up with.

Total: $368.93 + $19.23 shipping = $388.16

Comments:
  • I choose for a dedicated video card. Onboard will probably limit your overclock too much
  • Cheapo case... but hey, it's a case
  • No need for DDR2 800. You have an CPU with an FSB of 200MHz. With RAM on 1:1 you can push your FSB to 337.5MHz before RAM even hits stock! That's a CPU speed of 3.04GHz
  • I would recommend picking up an 80GB SATA drive... that way (with the SATA DVD), you can disable your IDE controller...

I pretty much agree with above...But I'm an nVidia fan so I would go with a different GPU...also, there are sooooo many options for a cheap, but good case. I like the Coolermaster Elite for a "cheap" case. That mobo is also a very good choice for overclocking...inexpensive and it pretty much rocks. Cancel that, it REALLY rocks for the price...(for overclocking that is).

One reason for that cheapo case is also the $4.99 shipping cost So, it's about $26 shipped(!). That's hard to beat.

wowzers! that is nice for people that don't have direct access to a good computer store.

I'm lucky because I work for a very large wholesale computer company and get stuff at cost...no need to worry about shipping!!

Well ATI is definatly the king of the mid-lowrange cards.

That X1550 is an X1300Pro in disguise
