ok well here my stab at a cheap effect way to hold with a gpu heres are some examples for folding rigs ranging in price form 250 to 700
cheap single gpu 2 just add case and HD ![]() ![]() quad gpu2 ![]() ![]() dual gpu2 ![]()

Is this going to be a dedicated folding machine? If so, I would go with a $30 case (local if possible to save shipping), and just use the stock cooler. It seems like overclocking doesn't give a huge impact in folding from what i've heard.
Also if it's dedicated, you can pick up a ps3 for $500 or less. I think they are on par with a q6600 for folding, not positive though.

I'd put that quad in your rig, and make that Celly a folder.
It's great to have a dedicated rig (I will soon, too) just for folding, but I'd personally worry about keeping my main rig in the fast lane, moreso than my folding rigs.

im wanting to do that with my celly. but i just putting this out there for some one to see that you can build a cheap folding rig with a quad

I think the AsRock 4CoreDualVSTA would be a better motherboard since it also supports Quad cores and is cheaper. Plus (if you're crazy), you can put in two X18xx/x19xx cards in for even more folding.
Then you could run it with no case or with a cheap ATX one. They shouldn't cost much more. edit: plus you can use old DDR RAM, if you have any |
