I'm probably gunna see if I can salvage a cheap board somewhere that supports the E2140 series to see if I can rule out anything.
3 times in a row is a bit much to constantly blame on the mobo, even when all the symptoms are the same. D:

Yup. It's been ran...on...running for...being used....something...on several rigs. Even running another PSU does nothing.

Yea, I really shouldn't be trying to troubleshoot this when I've had a bit much to drink...I'll try and tackle this in the morning Pook.

I took out the battery overnight (~10 hours
) and nothing. Not that I expected it to, but still.

At this point...I'd suggest one of two things:
1) RMA the board again, and probably have the same luck .... ![]() 2) Nail the board to your wall, and buy a new one from a different manufacturer

1) Probably.
![]() 2) Don't have the money for. I got $35 to my name. I'm looking for a cheap used mobo on OCN (See my wanted thread), so I can at least make 100% sure it's my mobo doing all this, even though it's really the only thing it could be. Then I could RMA my P5N as long as I have shipping money, and wouldn't be stranded on a T-Bird. :|

Why is it smoking?
![]() |
Try this...turn it on, then hit the reset button while you're getting the beep codes. This should force it to load everything at default settings. I read somewhere that having an OC profile stored can cause it to try to boot with the OC settings even after a BIOS reset. I have the same mobo with an e4300 and I've had a few power-on issues with it as well but nothing like this. Mine usually just doesn't want to boot up first thing in the morning. Once the components warm up it runs fine. It also has huge FSB holes. I can boot at 1260 and 1333, but nothing in between.

Heh sorry about that. Try turning it on and hitting the reset button after about 5 seconds.
