Ok i been so bz with school that i havent had much time to read up on the new tech coming out and all.
__________________1st question is. are there any new techs coming out that will have a big impact on the change of a build. Im talking bout how vista and direct x10 came out and all. if there is can someone mention that before they go to the next part. If not then i would need an idea for an ideal computer that will run application's for work and some photo and video editing programs. also he thinks he is doing well to install a bunch of programs that are ****(he wont listen to me but he may when he gets this one. ne ideas or information would be great. Thanks

The new intel processors are being released this January but I doubt they would affect your father's build. It sounds like he is just doing regular things so a good AM2 build will do fine or a e2140 build. If he is doing intense video work that will include encoding then you might want a better CPU.
Tforce Mobo- $70. AM2 X2 3600- $60. 8600GT- $100. Crucial Ballistix 2gb- $60. Any Cheap case - $40 DVD+-RW 500gb WD AAKS.

it depends on how much you are willing to spend. Also if video editing and work applications are the only thing he is going to use this pc then I don't think there is anything coming out that will have a major impact.

Give me a budget and I'll come up with a build.

Redsox has a nice budget build for a casual user (which is what your dad sounds like). It should work fine. Also, OS wise, since your dad is only doing work and minimal photo and video, XP would be a better choice over Vista (one of the only major advantages of Vista for most people is Direct X 10, and since your dad won't be gaming (I'm assuming), XP will take up less system resources and run faster).

Wow $1000? You can do a lot.
Q6600 Intel Mobo 8600gts (Should be fine for him) DDR2-800 Ballistix 2gb CM690 AAKS 320gb 19inch Samsung If you don't need a monitor then just subtract it. Add whatever OS you want.
