OKay guys. I just buil the cpu in my sig today for christmas and i had it running but it was crashing every 30 seconds to five minutes. I then took everything apart checked plugs etc and put it back together. Now i will get power to the HDD the fans turn on but my CD drive will not turn on and i get no display through the vid card to my screen. I do not hear dos beeps but i just installed the speaker and it wasn't on before so i'm not sure if i was getting beeps before.

forgot to add that the cmos green light comes on and the vid card fan does come on.

Well that would be a dead video card if the video card doesn't function.

Do you have any other ways to check, like another video card or motherboard?

Crashing with BSOD? I think it may be your power supply although it isn't so bad of a PSU... But if your graphics does not show onscreen, then there may be a problem there

i was thinking that but i'm not sure how to test it. I have the only desktop in the house


*EDIT* was thinking about the PSU too but then wouldn't the fans not be getting power or the HDD??

So all you changed was the CPU? The rest of the parts you have had working in the past?

no all the parts are new and the cd drive will not turn on. I could try setting the PSU for high power output constant istead of their adaptive power

But he said his cd drive won't turn on?? I'd say low voltage psu.

Do you have a multi-meter?? if so check the voltages of the psu to quickly eliminate it as a possibility.

im going to say bad power supply kills everything on this. or maybe the power supply just sucks. And thats an honest answer.

THEORY: because your power supply was restarting / turning off every couple of minutes, it may be because your computer cannot give enough power to the computer components. Now because you allowed this to continue happening, it may be that the motherboard was getting inconsistent power, and therefore shorted itself out, or just crapped out. I doubt it is your video card because it does not require a direct power source, but draws its power from the motherboard.

im going to have to say your mobo died.

** these beeps that you are getting, is there a specific sequence they are giving?
