Exclamation My computer keeps freezing... Urgent! (Vista X64)

Hey guys!

I formatted yesterday and installed Vista X64. I updated everything... MOBO, GPU, SP1 and every other optional fixes from microsoft.

It went very well for like 5-6 hours of Crysis, browsing on internet and even a couple of 3DMark06 tests that went very well... but then this afternoon it started freezing.

The first time it happened was in the Crysis map editor (Sandbox 2). This is where it freezes that fastest (once every 2 mins).

I also tried working on some movies I'm doing in Windows Movie Maker and it froze within 10 min... and another time 10 mins later...

I tried making another 3dMark06 test but it froze halfway through...

I tried setting my bios to default (my CPU is OCed...) and even disabling SLI... no help at all. It even froze while booting (the wallpaper appeared but thats it)...

Could it be an heating issue? The thing is I've been running on XP 64 for like 5 months and I never had those troubles... all I did was format and install Vista... could it be Vista then?

What do you suspect? What can I try?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT : I just tried the beta drivers (169.44 I think...) but it's even worse : my computer freeze after like 10 sec in Crysis now.

Did you disable unnecessary services? That step would definitely improve performance.

Make sure that you defrag your HDD as well.

I doubt defragmenting a freshly formatted drive will help...

everything I don't use (onboard sound, etc...) is disabled.

Please guys! I really need help here... I don't wanna give up and go back to XP...

I had a similar issue recently after 6 hours on my new system with vista 64bit. I was playing around with WoW to test everything out and the 3D graphics processing on my video card died. I was able to isolate it to the video card because my old one works with no problems. Try checking your event log also.

I tried swapping my 8800 gtx and tried each one one at a time... and I was still experiencing random lockup

Event log? What's that and where is it located? (yeah I'm a n00b...)

Did you download SP1 for Vista?

Assuming you did I was getting hangups in some games afterwards, had to reinstall my video drivers (169.25) as a last ditch effort and now everything has been flawless for a few days.

Mine too.. except I've spent a day trying different things and at the end of the day now I have to reformat YET AGAIN. 3rd time in a year. With XP I reformatted it twice since it came out.

Vista blows and this is coming from somebody who was a fan for a very long time before realizing how fragile and corruptible the entire thing is. I'm on 64-bit as well.
