Default Uses for my old pentium IV PC??

Hey guys,

My dad is purchasing a laptop soon, and I'll be taking his old PC.

The specs are:

2.66Ghz Pentium IV Northwood @ 3.0Ghz - Socket 478 I think.
768mb PC2700 DDR Ram.
ATi Radeon 9250 Pro AGP (Best GPU I've ever bought , sucks now though ).
Gigabyte GA-8SIMLH Motherboard
80GB Maxtor 7200RPM IDE HDD
300w Enermax PSU
All Stock Cooling.

What could this system be used for?

I was thinking about maybe a Linux box, and I could set up a CS:S or 1.6 Dedicated Server or something, or maybe a torrent box or File server.

I'll be building a new PC hopefully in the summer, so anyway I could use this as an extension to the new PC??

Any Ideas??

It would be great for a linux box, but you may have troubles with the ATI drivers. You could also use it to hold music/movies and be able to access it from anywhere on your network (server).

I would try Ubuntu Linux if you are new to linux, look @ my n00b guide in the linux section

FOLD like a mother with 15 kids. Other than that this comp would work really well as a dedicated server (cs or w/e) but you need a decent connection first

maybe find a good deal on a radeon 9600 or 9800 and use it for older games or like sc30317 said, linux box for coding or just dinking around. and if you dont want it to be simply a linux box do a dual boot and use it to run a cs1.6 or css server. i would also recommend ubuntu as i've had good experiences with it, very user friendly and not too hard to learn the intricacies of Linux

how well would a 3ghz p4 fold though? I thought of folding, but it looks like for a decent folding machine you need a quad.

I will more than likely run ubuntu 7.10 (I have alot of experience with Linux btw) can you fold with Linux?? The PC will probably be used as a HTPC too, for DVD's and music and movies on the HDD.
