Default Overclocking failed twice need help with q6600

Hi guys.I am new to overclocking. So I need some detailed advice regarding overclocking my rig accordingly with this current specs:

• Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz (TRYING TO OVERCLOCK TO 3.2GHZ)
• ASUS Maximus Formula
• OCZ Vanquisher
• CoolerMaster 750Watts
• Sapphire Radeon 3870X2 (In QuadCrossfire Mode)
• 4GB OCZ Reaper DDR2-800 PC2 6400
• 750 GB WD HDD SATA II

BIOS Version: 0907
Operating System: Windows Vista SP1

I tried twice overclocking my cpu on air but it failed twice. I really need help. I used these settings. And one more thing what should i do with pre OC settings like QX6800,QX6850, CRAZY.When i select one of these options, it gives me a submenu of CPU LEVEL UP and the computer choose CPU LEVEL OPTION FROM THE LIST AUTOMATICALLY. If someone has hardware like mine. Please let me know the settings. Cheers

FSB frequency = 400.
- CPU ratio setting = 8. 400x8=3200
- FSB strap to NB = 333MHz
- PCI frequency = 100.
DRAM frequncy = manual. select 800MHz.
DRAM command rate = 2T
DRAM timing control = manual. .
I Set the first five to: 5-5-5-15. The rest i left on auto.
DRAM static read control = enabled.
Transaction booster: Enabled and set it to 0.
CPU voltage = 1.3V

I know nothing of the AI clock twister so I need help with that.

- CPU PLL voltage = 1.5V.
- NB voltage = 1.25V
- DRAM voltage = My RAM is specced for 2.1V so I set this value.
- SB voltage = left on auto.
- Loadline calibration = enabled.
- CPU and PCIE spread spectrum = disabled.
- Vanderpool technology = disabled.

You need more vcore. Set it at 1.35v and see if that helps, if not keep pushing it up a bit until its stable. Though not to exceed the thermal specs of your chip or 1.5v on the vcore.

Follow what aksthem1 said about your vcore until you get your CPU stable.

Once you're done with the CPU, then start to dial in that RAM. You should be able to run 4-4-4-10 timings at 800 MHz and Transaction Booster Enabled (1 or 2) with a 400 FSB.

Don't bother with the pre OC Settings. Doing it manually is the way to go.

First, set the level up to auto. This may be your main issue. That feature doesn't work well at all.
In addition to what's been posted set your FSB strap to NB to auto for now. Also I need 1.5 vcore to pass Orthos at 400FSB.
Leave DRAM static read control and transaction booster on auto until you get your CPU OC figured out.
You'll need to bump up your NB to at least 1.55( I think it'll be yellow instead of green, but as long as you have good airflow through your case you should be good)
Set your FSB termination voltage to 1.2( should be the lowest value)
One more thing. Set your CPU GTL and NB GTL voltage to 0.63 and 0.67. This helps a lot when OCing quads.
Try those things and post what happens. Good luck.

You need more Vcore, also, dont overclock using Windows programs...
ALWAYS use your BIOS, it is more reliable and easy to revert if you do something wrong

you may need to up your North Bridge volts to 1.4v or more if running 400FSB or above

also have you 4x 1gb memory or 2x 2gb ??
if you have 4 you may want to OC with 2 sticks only

cheers mate. You blokes are posting suggestions which is helping me a lot. One more thing.I mentioned ealiar in the post i am new to this so i dont what orthos is?Can anyone explain. And i have 2GBx2 sticks not 1GBx4 cheers
Edit:
I have couple of things before i tried what you told me. You said to change the CPU LEVEL UP TO AUTO.If i select this to auto the AI OVERCLOCKING TUNER OPTION CHANGES TO CPU LEVEL UP. And it does show me the rest of the options you mentioned to set manually. I have to set the cpu level up to QX6850 AND THE AI OVERCLOCKING TUNER TO MANUAL to set the option you told me manually. So what should i do? And should i set the cpu ratio to 8.0 or the leave it to default i.e 9.0. I am attaching the screenshots also

I changed the settings that you asked me to.

i have not tried yet because x2s3w4 did not answer what i asked. One more question i just recently experienced this situation that after playing a game, i touched my GPU 3870x2 from the back and it was extremely hot. I could not even touch it and my monitor cable was hot too. Probably because of the hot air coming out of the GPU cooler. Is THAT NORMAL?
