Default 2k Budget Computer

Ok my friend wants me to build him a "monster" of a computer so he says. His budget is 2k. He wants me to OC it etc.

This is what ive come up with so far.

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor

2 X Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive in RAID 0

Rosewill RX950-D-B ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91 950W Power Supply

Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler

Thermaltake CL-R0026 Aluminum Heatsinks only

SAMSUNG 2253BW Black 22" 2ms(GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

SAMSUNG Black DVD Writer

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

DFI LP LT X48-T2R LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard

2 x DIAMOND 4870PE5512 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5

Total = $2,041.86

Things I forgot, Vista 64 bit Home Premium for builders, usually like 99 bucks.
Obviously I can go cheaper on the case. He needs a monitor so, kind of stuck there.

Any suggestions on how to keep it around 2k, and still maintain Crossfired 4870s??

Some potential suggestions:
Currently, Dominator 2x2gb has better deal.
I would at least upgrade Q6700.
Change the PSU. One rail is more powerful.

Edit: Tuniq and TRUE are kinda outdated. I'm getting Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer. Check it out on frostytech.com.
I'm not sure if your friend would need 1TB HDs. Maybe you can save some money there.

Keep the G.Skill. Its better and OCs well.
Change the PSU to a better brand. The Silverstone DA-850 is good and it has modular cables, and that 'one rail is better' thing is a myth. Or, you could get the Corsair HX-1000 and be all prepared to go Tri-Fire if need be. apart from that its a great system.
oh, if its just for gaming id suggest a 4ghz 45nm core 2 duo over a 3.6ghz quad.

On a 22" monitor, I'm pretty sure you don't need CrossFired 4870s. I believe CrossFired 4850s are pretty close in performance, or even a single 4870. Going with CF'd 4850s would save a couple hundred to fit in Vista.

It might not be a bad idea to go with an X38 board instead. The only difference between X38 and X48 is official 1600 FSB support on the latter, but the former supports it just fine. This should make for a suitable replacement and save $30.

Is this a gaming setup? I imagine so. An E8400 might be a better option than the Q6600. I think 950W might be a little overkill, too.

I say buy ONE HD4850. Then a HD4870X2 when they are released a month. It will be cheaper, and honestly, I haven't been able to not max any games except for Crysis.

For the monitor, that same one goes for $300 or even down to $280 on Buy.com and Tigerdirect. A 22" monitor with crossfired HD4870's would just be stupid, you need more pixels!

If the multirail connects back to single, then, it'll be ok. Check this out http://www.pcpower.com/technology/myths/

Get these instead of the Rosewill:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 (What mootsfox suggested)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256016

Vendetta 2 - Similar performance as the TRUE but for cheaper
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835202007

Swap the X48 with the X38 mentioned by mootsfox above, keep the G.Skill, drop the RAM heatsink, and IMO, I would also upgrade to a Q6700 instead.

Rosewell PSU is getting better. For a $2K rig, to have a $200 PSU is reasonable. One 4870 is 150W so 2x is around 300w, plus a quad and others, a good 750W+ should be fine. Many good quality PSU from Silverstone, Corsair and Thermaltake are around that price range. Regarding the Tuniq, you may need to do some mods in order to fit that DFI board.
