Exclamation Question About E8400 processor.

Hello. Im wondering if anE8400 processor stock clocked will be at equal temeratures as an E2180. Eg, will both be at 40 idle, 50+ stock.Or is the E8400 just an overclocked version of the E8400.

Are you overclocking the E2180? If so, the E8400 at stock will run cooler then the E2180 overclocked, since you need more volts to overclock. I have my E8400 overclocked to 3.6GHz, and it idles at ~35C and loads at ~43C.

The temp you have for your E2180 is pretty high, unless you have a lot of volts running through that thing or if you are using the stock cooler.

No, im buying an E8400 and have an E2180. I want to know if they have the same(within a resonable range) of load and idle temperatures. Therefore They would have the same overclocking potential . I wanna know if the E8400 will have the same temperatures as my overclocked E2180@3.0GHz(overclocked from 2.0)

Well, the E2180 is a 65nm part while the E8400 is a 45nm part. I achieved my OC w/o changing the default volts to the CPU. What volts did you need to reach your OC? Also, 45nm parts run cooler then the 65nm parts do, so you should have some lower temps unless you plan a really high OC.

One thing to mention though, the 45nm parts should be kept under 1.3625 volts as they start to experience burn in above that, which ruins the CPU. Again though, I have mine OC'ed from 3.0GHz to 3.6GHz without changing the default volts, so there is some head room to play with still.

I believe 4.0 is still attainable on air, it'll just require more voltage. I'm not sure how much of a performance gain you'd see from 3.6-3.8 GHz to 4.5 GHz. I imagine it isn't that noticeable.
