Default build worth it for £890?

i think ive decided to go down the ATI HD4870 road now since they seem to be performing very well and a hell of a lot cheaper than nvidia, so im trying to decide on a crossfire board and cpu

also is the Q9450 before than the Q6600? its an extra 70 quid but is it worth it... whats the multiplier? ( more overclockable? ) oh and if i wanted to use the Q9450 with a 1333 bus does that mean it would be beneficial to have a motherboard capable of 1600? I think that asus rampage is only 1200

and also will I need a fan to put on the thermalright 120? as it said bare sink(no fan) and if so which fan would be best for it

anyway what u think of this?

get the Q6600 as it has a higher multi 9x Vs the 8x on the Q9450 so 4GHz would be Q6600=445 FSB Q9450 500FSB

Its not worth getting the q9450 - its not a great overclocker due to 8x multiplier, get the q6600. You should get a fan for the true - I recommend a scythe ultra kaze 2000rpm fan or summat similar...

thanks, noted... now what about the motherboard.. would it be good to go for a motherboard capable of a 1600fsb for future cpu upgrades?

Rampage formula supports up to 1600 so you would be fine with that board.

BTW - I would recommend the DFI LANPARTY DK X48-T2RS board, and also you probably want to get a higher quality PSU - I suggest maybe the Antec quattro 850w or a corsair PSU.

and is going the crossfire route ( x48 ) a good choice and is the HD4870 a good investment?? I seen benchmarks that said that it beats the 9800gx2, is this true?? how come the HD4870 is so cheap if this is the case

Looks good. I would change the cpu to 9x Q6600 and get a better 850W PSU (this is assuming you plan on 4870CF. One 4870 is 150w, with quad and others, you don't need a 850w psu). HD4870 is a good investment. Yes. It does beat 9800gx2 in some areas. In gerenal, ATI prices their GPUs at lower price. Also, 4850 CF is another good option.
