hi!
i want to get a new computer that will run the latest games and that will last as long as possible....i dont know much about computers when you get down to parts and with the little knowledge i have and a lot of ''googling'' i decided to buy the following:
(buy the way im shopping on www.ncix.com)

-Antec 900 case or something else...still have not decided (100$)
-E8400 core 2 duo (220$)
-Corsair DDR2 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 (80$)
-Western Digital SE16 500GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Cache 8.9MS NCQ Hard Drive OEM (90$)
-video card will be nVidia but i wont buy it right away, same for the power supply

now for the motherboard, i took a look at the ASUS P5K-E and the P5N because they are both around 160$ and both run 1333FSB or something (i want to stay in that price range) but one is crossfire ready and the other one supports SLI....and i dont want to buy 2 video cards...at least not yet

so for a pc that goes around 600$ before video card, does that sounds good? im really not sure about the motherboard...and the memory kit also...is everything going to be compatible?

lots of questions for a first post, just hope to get lots of answers!

If you have already decided to go with NVidia...then get the board that is SLI ready.

SLI and Crossfire are more or less trademarks for dual graphics units...but SLI is NVIDIA ONLY and Crossfire is ATI ONLY...

So - If you ever decide you need a 2nd graphics card...you will want the SLI board so you don;t have to buy new graphics cards.

First of all, do you have peripherals such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and teh like? If not, how much extra are you willing to spend?

So you want to spend $600, not including video card. Is this system primarily for gaming or multimedia tasks?

by the way, i hesitated a lot between the E8400 and the Q6600 and after lots of thinking i do not belive a quad is necessary for me since i dont run 1000 things at same time...im more the ''close everything before playing'' kinda guy

the pc is for everything but more for gaming and yes i have keyboard, mouse and screen

build looks good to me :] your going to want a beefy power supply 650Watt + for the dual videocards, also depending on what card you want you may need a bit bigger than a 650watt.

i really hope you have a videocard for now as neither of those boards have onboard graphics capabilities. take a look around here for a while, and let some info soak into your brain.

Well, sorry to say that I cannot simply tell you whether or not it will play all the latest games but I doubt it will unless you're dropping big buxx on a GTX 280. Nor will it last very long as dual core is fast becoming outdated with the arrivale of better quad cores and '09 processors which contain 6-8 cores. This is just the CPU market, the GPU market is far less stable these days.

Besides that info. I don't want to discourage you in any way and can see that you are clearly on a budget (like most of us) so I will just add that your part choices are somewhat good but I cannot really tell what your rig will be capable of or if there will be a bottleneck (planning to OC?) until you figure out which video card you're going to purchase. Don't cheap out of the video card or power supply is pretty much the only thing I can say right now based on your info.

*Edit: Don't underestimate quads, if you truely want your PC to last long you must go quad on this upgrade as more applications and games will support multiple processors and it will no longer become an issue of running multiple processes but rather power available.

wow...so quick on replies!
i dont plan on overclocking and i will get a good video card...8800gt or gtx (if there is a difference)
now the fact that there is no onboard graphic on those mobos is something i did not realize...and it would be a good thing to have since im not going to buy my video card right away

Tough one...most SLi or Crossfire boards don't have onboard graphics....and I certainly don't know of any onboard graphics that are up to par with even LOW settings on newer games.

If you want to get the most for your money, even a conservative OC is worth the effort.
Take a Q6600 which runs at 2400MHz, even a conservative 3000MHz (3G) is a breeze. Its like having more performance than a Q6800 with out paying the price

the best ONBOARD gpu i can think of is on the 780G AMD chipset.
its HD3k series based and supports DX10,
guarantees a slide-show if you want to play crysis lol
