I just recently purchased all the components to make a new system.
Asus P5KR P35 Intel q6600 ( stock fan / heat sink ) ( Kentsfield ) G0 SLACR 95W 8Mb Cache LGA775 (1066 Mhz) Corsair Twin2X 4GB DDR2 (2x2048MB) XMS2 6400 C5 Ive been looking around the net at articles on overclocking and I'm asking all experienced Overclockers, is this a good set up to overclock on? and would getting to 3GHz on air? any advice would be greatly appreciated and I do apologize if this is the incorrect board, I must be being thick -_-' Last edited by Tiken : 07-03-08 at 02:37 PM. |

hey welcome to OCN.
yeah that setup should be fine. I don't know about hitting 3ghz on the stock cooler. You might want to invest in an aftermarket one. I have had a lot of bad luck with the stock intel coolers, however that chip is very capable of hitting well over 3 on air, so depending on how well you seat your cooler who knows. fill in your system specs, and if you have questions just ask everyone here is willing to help

You could definitely get 3ghz on air, however, I wouldn't overclock at all with the stock cooler.

Haha agreed. I did hit 3.0 with the stock cooler. I hit 3.2 in fact... It was just very hot. Like load temps around 65°C!!
So get an aftermarket cooler and you're golden ![]() And welcome to OCN.

Good setup for overclocking, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to OC on the stock cooler. I haven't used a Q6600 myself, but most reviews show that it's pushing it's thermal limits on the stock cooler at stock clocks...so definitely go aftermarket cooling to get it to 3GHz. All in all, a great rig. Good luck with it and have fun! And welcome to OCN!

Yeah, I don't advise using the stock cooler to OC with, but if you can;t get your hands on an aftermarket one, then the stock will be fine for small OC's. 3.0 will be too hot to run for a long time.

Yeah. I wouldn't recommend using the stock cooler. You can get a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 for around $37 and it will perform pretty much as well as a TRUE.
