That board won't run the 4850,you'll have to get a nvidia card or change the mobo. And this is some good memory.

Hi, i've advised Beast these components, I have tried to stick to one website (newegg) and to the $900 budget although I'm not familiar with US prices so i may have missed something. Chose with OCing in mind r.e. geil, wolfdale, 750i. I've convinced him to go E7200 and not AMD BE so that's one big acomplishment already

I think HD4850 is definately the right decision considering the performence and price of the 9800GTX and GTX+ R.E. memory, originally i had a 2x1gb kit of the G. Skill 6400 you suggested, but i went for Geil based on their reputation? I also stuck to PC6400 for compatability reasons, I couldn't see a MOBO which supported 1000mhz or 1066mhz DDR2 ram for $130 ish.

CASE: Antec Nine Hundred
Reasonably cheap case, great airflow, good cable management, loads of expandability

MOBO:Asus P5N-D LGA 775 nVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX
Went for it simply because it was the best i could find for the budget. Although now HE NEEDS A CF ONE

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
Low price, wolfdale core so hopefully OCs similar to E8200 (obviously slightly lower)

PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.
Very reliable, 33amp on +12v rail, cheap

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA
Just a standard 7.2k 250gb SATA HDD. Haven't checked the cache size.

OPTICAL:LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe
Again just a standard DVD-RW

GFX CARD: ASUS EAH4850/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
HD4850 best bang4buck in this price range, also appears to scale well in CF

RAM:GeIL Evo One 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2
Went for Geil on the basis that this is going to be overclocked. PC6400 for obvious reasons. Alternatively Corsair XMS2? which would remain stable at higher clocks?

and it will run vista 64 bit

For a $900 budget i think i've done quite well, although as Beast said he needs a CF MOBO.

Oh and CPU cooler. He's going to see what the stock cooler is like on the basis that: the case has very good airflow so shouldn't be recycling warm air, its 45nm so shouldn't make too much heat, if the stock cooler is absolute BS then he can order an aftermarket (I was thinking Sythe Ninja? surely it comes with the 4 pin - i don't mean molex - CPU fan?) heatsink along with an extra 2gb of RAM.

Any suggestions/swaps welcome.

The HD4850 will run on that board he just can't run in crossfire and seeing he has a SLI board maybe he should go with the 9800GTX it performs just a little behind the 4850 and he would have the option to upgrade to SLI later.

if you do look for a x38 or x48 motherboard, they have better crossfire performance over the p35

Looks good. Nothing wrong to go with 750i but at that price range, a basic solid P45 board is another good option in case you may plan to 4850cf.

No, that's an Intel brand board, you can't overclock with them.

You'll want something like this.

ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45
