Sorry for the slight thread hijack, but is there that much of a difference between a quad (oc'ed ~3.6) and an E8400 at 4GHz in terms of gaming?

if you are only gaming and not running any other applications that require lots of processing, the E8400/4970 FTW!

It looks like fewer quads are getting to 3.6 GHz on air these days. Then again, I've heard newer E8400s are harder to take to 4.0 GHz, but they'll reach 3.6-3.8 GHz relatively easily.

I'm sure with the right motherboard (GA X48T-DQ6 or EVGA 790i Ultra), you could overclock a quad really well. But for gaming, you're better off with a dual-core processor because the vast majority of games don't utilize four cores. The only argument for quads these days is the extra cores could handle background tasks.
