Don't leave it on Auto. When you leave vcore on auto when you are overclocking your system tries to compensate for your higher FSB and ultimately you get a random failure. Set your voltage to 1.4 and watch your temps.

You could try looser RAM timings, like 5-5-5-12 or 15 (depending on what frequency your memory is running at).

Make sure you don't put volts too high on anything, either. I've never overclocked with an Asus P5K so I'm not exactly sure what's "too high" for your specific voltages on your motherboard. But definitely make sure your CPU V-Core is 1.5V or below **make sure to watch temps, however - and stay under 70C in Prime 95 load**.

try using mm5 or speedfan ,or if u have pc probe .check the reading on them.to see if the vcore reading is close to what your setting are.

That is called V-droop. It's normal. Your V-Core will usually be reported lower in CPU-Z then what you actually set it too in BIOS, and usually drops a little during load, as well.

21C Idle/42C load? What temp monitoring program are you using? What is the ambient temp? That seems really cool, especially for a Q6600 @ ~1.4V-Core. (21C is about 70F.) Use CoreTemp if you aren't already and tell us your individual Core temperatures.

Is there a loadline calibration in your BIOS? If so enable it and it will greatly reduce your vdroop.
You shouldn't set your CPU voltage any higher than 1.55 in BIOS.

Well, I like to say the V-Core you select in BIOS is your "Set V-Core",
and the V-Core you see in CPU-Z is your "actual V-Core" (both idle and load).

Some motherboards experience a lot of V-Droop, some next to none.

There is really no absolute V-Core that is "safe" for your CPU. According to Intel's Spec sheet on the Q6600, the highest V-Core the processor is designed to run at is 1.5 Volts (Sorry I don't have the link ATM). The higher the voltage supplied, the higher the risk of excessive electron migration (or electromigration) in the CPU's internal pathways - which damages it over time. When you overvolt a CPU past it's tolerable range, the damage potential is increased exponentially.

Basically, electron migration will always be happening, but we can limit it by keeping nominal voltages. Going "to high" is like rolling the dice, your CPU may live for years, or could die immediately. The odds just increase by quite a bit when you go over an "acceptable" amount.

That's my understanding. Please someone correct me if any of it's wrong.

Ok, sorry for all the details......

For a Q6600, I like to keep it at or under 1.5V "actual" for 24/7 use. As in, I'll set it a little higher than in the BIOS if I need to account for V-Droop. But it's really up to you how high you want to go. Just make sure your temps are OK under load.

Hope that helps. Again, sorry if that was "too much information", lol.

Wow really thank you! no such thing as too much info lol! Ill keep that in mind! well it just crashed at 1.435ish to upped to 1.45 almost the highest im willing to go. But my temps seem amazing about 43c under load and 23c idl, i think thats pretty decent!
Once i get stable +1 rep for all!
