Default Budget Build ~$300

Well my friends old PC is about slower than molasses and he wants something that will surf the internet, check emails, and use office for school work. He has about a $300 budget for the tower itself. I have an antec 300, arctic freezer 7 pro, and a 7800gt vid card laying around which I am donating to his cause. Let me know if there is anything better i can do with the limited budget he gave me.

mobo- Gigabyte G31 $58.49
processor- E5200 $83.99
ram- gskill 2gig (2x1) ddr2 800 $39.99
harddrive- Seagate 7200.10 250gig $54.99
psu- antec earthwatts 430w $39.99
optical drive- Samsung SATA dvd burner $22.99

Grand total w/shipping: $315.18

Looks good to me. Might want to step the mobo up a bit. To save more, grab a e21xx. If hes only doing a few things he doesnt need a 5200. Id say get a p35 mobo and 2180 like i got.

All of those seem pretty decent for the limited-budget.

I will check into the suggestions. For the hd, he wanted something he could keep his and his girlfriends music from on since his girlfriends laptops hard drive is bursting at the seems with their music. (4year old laptop also super slow, but faster than his old pc)

I would suggest you buy a FX5500 to add to that. Much better then the FX5200, because of the higher core and memory clock, but its not a low profile card, also it has a 128bit bus.

I'd swap out that m-atx mobo for this one.

Aawa is already throwing a Geforce 7800 video card... Plus FX series card was horrible.

ooo great find for the open box deal. I do have all the cables that typically come with a mobo, the only thing i am worried about is the I/O shield.
