Hello Everyone
My name is Sean, I usually just read up about problems that I am having with my system which are usually easy to find. But I have finally decided it's time for an upgrade, a complete new system. So I decided to place it here and get some feedback and some possible changes. Anyway here it is enjoy. Case: NZXT Tempest CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8400 RAM: Corsair TWIN3X4096-1600C9DHX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 Graphics Card: HIS Hightech Radeon HD4870 X2 Power Supply: Corsair TX-750 750W Optical Drive: Samsung SH-S223F SATA DVDRW Hard Drive: Samsung 1TB 7200rpm SATA II HD103UJ Now I am not entirly sure about the Case, I was thinking maybe either the Antec 1200 or the CoolerMaster Cosmos S. I did look at the CoolerMaster HAF 932, but I just didn't like the look of it, but if anyone can think of a case better than the ones I've said please do tell me. Also the E8400 is just for now until I really need Quad core this will do me for now. Well I thank you very much for looking at my Computer. By the way if anyone is curious, it comes to $2,183.00. Well thank you again. Also if anyone needs help with their build just give me a link or if you don't have a link just PM and I will help as soon as possible. ![]() Last edited by Sean.111 : 10-06-08 at 06:29 AM. |

Sounds like a good build. You are missing one thing though: CPU cooling. That stock Intel heatsink is not gonna cut it. Try anything by ASUS, Zalman or Thermaltake. The Blue Orb II looks SICK in the Tempest. Speaking of which...
I have the Tempest case and it works marvelously. If you are going for cooling and want to show your rig off, this case is great and everything is well organized, especially with the cable management holes on the chassis. I don't like the Antec cases because those top exhaust fans are so fragile and, theoretically, two smaller fans provide more ventilation than one. I haven't investigated the CM cases, but I have heard that if you get one, get the Stacker 830. Are you going to be running it in Crossfire (are you going to eventually get a second graphics card?) If you are considering that, get a better power supply. I'd say save some money on RAM and get some OCZ Reaper sticks for $50 cheaper and you get lower timings as well. The E8400 will serve you well for a LONG time. Maybe shell out the extra $20 and get an 8500 OR add $20 more and you've got a Q8200!

Indeed you are missing an aftermarket cooler if you wish to overclock that e8400 which im assuming you chose because you know of its overclocking capability's
I recommend either of these two. OCZ Vendetta 2 xigmatek hdt-s1283

That seems expensive for what you've got. I'm not sure there's much benefit getting the DDR3 RAM yet?

Given the performance advantage over DDR2 though, in the long run it will be worth it. That way, there is no need to buy more RAM in the future, nor is there a need to upgrade the motherboard. I despise ASUS motherboards. In earlier builds, every single board I got was dead (and I got 3). I've never had an XFX or eVGA board fail me. From what I've read, Gigabyte and DFI also make solid boards. Try looking into their products if you are looking to cut your cost even more.

The only GB board I've bought was bad.
On the DDR3, he's paying a premium now for no additional performance until he gets a new MB and CPU later. Assuming DDR3 prices fall to today's DDR2 levels when the new chipsets become commonplace, there's no benefit at all.. This, however, is just my $.02.. ![]() ..a
