Looks good but that doesn't sound the reason to go for DDR3. I would pick a solid P45 or 750i and DDR2 ram to do the same things. That save almost $200 for something else.

I would stay DDR-2 but if you are set on this build definately swap out that video card for this GTX260 at the same price, also includes a game: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127361

yea I wouldnt go ddr3 yet being it is not a big step up right now, if u are trying to future proof the machine then sure go for it and that way you will be all set, ddr3 ram is a lot faster b/c of its higher mhz, but the price you pay for it, its not worth it if u ask me.

MSI X48C Platinum

What do you think about that board?? It has both DDR2 and DDR3 which leaves the option of future upgrades to DDR3, and has 2 full speed PCI-E x16 2.0 slots.

Review of the MSI X48

Ive read some reviews that its not that good for overclocking and it has only 46% 5/5 on newegg anyone have this board?

or

ASRock X48TurboTwins-WiFi LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard

I know its the budget ASUS branch or w/e but it has a 79% newegg with 24 total reviews.

Key features I would really want for my friend is both DDR2 and DDR3 compatable, and 2 full PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots. I basically want him to be able to upgrade in the future without buying a new mobo.

It also needs to be able to fit into the budget, Ill get DDR2 mem this time since the board will be able to have both DDR2 and DDR3

Here are some newegg links to DDR2/3 boards with 2 PCI-E 2.0 16x slots.

DDR3 1600 / DDR2 1066

DDR3 1333 / DDR2 1066

DDR3 1600 / DDR2 800

Also, what beats video card in SLI/CF beats a single 9800GTX+ in about the same price range or a lil more since saving on the DDR3 memory will leave some room.

Why do you need an 790i/X48 mobo for a single card? A P35/45 should be fine.

The point is that its very upgradable. Why would you buy a new mobo just for another video card?

**edit** you apparently did not look at the latest update
