Hey guys, I would just like to detail the situation first:
PC runs fine (sig rig), then all of a sudden BAM outta nowhere it freezes. No biggy, it's 64-bit, it happens occasionally when I run something it doesn't like. Of course, I wasn't running anything, but whatever. Next, I boot up: keyboard is not detected. GREAT! So, I restart a few times, fiddle with the back, and get the keyboard detected enough to go to bios. I un-overclock everything (especially my ram, way back down to stock). Save and reboot, won't start. No biggy, clear CMOS, try again, set up everything so it should run fine, start it up, nothing SEEMS wrong. Naturally, windows says "Something happened, *** man? What you do to me? Gimme a break, tell me: want me to start up like nothing happened? Want last good configurations?" Start up like normal is the obvious choice. No timer for decision. Keyboard stops working. Keyboard works fine at POST, but following POST it does not work. Sheissa, that sucks. I select the boot option, go to first HDD (no other HDD has any OS, single partition) and boot up from there. Voila, it works. However, now keyboard does not respond during post, nor between POST and Windows loaded. However, once Windows loads, it works fine. Another issue, is it runs a bit slower than it should. A bit laggy at startup, seems to have the hiccups occasionally, but hey, it runs. Anyone have this issue, and how'd you fix it? Last time I had this issue I reformatted it, did nothing. Was a buddy's PC. We ended up taking apart the system, rebuilding it, reformatting again (twice after the first time), and voila it worked. So, any suggestions? I gave us much info as possible. And I feel silly having to ask for help, but I have a feeling I toasted my RAM.

Hate to have to do this, but :bump:
If it helps, I know it's not the PSU, it's tested and fine. xD

Try swapping out some of the parts such as the keyboard and use only 1 stick of ram and boot with no additional drives attached to see if that fixes the problem. If you really wanna find out what the issue us, you could try installing a 32-bit operating system to see of the issue still persists.

It was running fine for about 8 months now, so I'm sure it's not a 64-bit incompatibility. All the RAM is the same, swapping did nadda. Could just be the fact that it's value ram that was overclocked to 800mhz from 667mhz, though...
keyboard is USB, and don't have another keyboard to test with. I tested this keyboard on my lappy and it works fine. thanks for the help though

Run memtest on it and see what the result is.

Ya, I'll run memtest in a bit. Can't just now cuz I have an exam tomorrow, but anywho. Any other suggestions in the meantime? Cuz right now the options are:
RAM or RAM (Though potentially it could be a HDD as well, so I guess I'll list that here too... Hey, I'm going out on a limb hoping I don't have to replace my RAM. I need a third opinion, cuz my opinion was the RAM, Mega suggested RAM, and right now, I'm just getting RAM... can it not be anything else?) :edit: Ooohhh, I may have jumped the gun. I was away from home for a long time, and I just noticed that there are 14 GD updates that need to be done, one of which may fix this problem. ![]() :edit: Ya, it's the fact that I have to get a CD, burn it, and then run the memtest that is forcing me to postpone it

Remember to run memtest off a CD, not from within windows.

Haha, the damn windows update fixed the keyboard issue and the stutter. That's awesome.
However, I can't get my RAM back up to 800mhz. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys Let's see if I can do that miracle with my value ram again at a later date xD

Quote:
![]() You could also check if you have the option in the BIOS that will allow you to POST without a keyboard for the next time it happens
